Overall, the traveling sector dominated online sales during 2003. Whereas 10 years later, the clothing sector rose to become the most profitable sector online.
In 2003, a huge chunk of online sales were taken by the travel sector at 36%. The other retail sectors such as clothes and film and music showed a small gap in terms of online sales at 24% and 21% respectively. Books garnered the least number of sales at only 19% for the entire year.
This pattern dramatically changed in 2013 with clothes demonstrating the smallest number of online sales amongst all the retail sectors at just 16% annually. Following this were the books and travel sectors at a close gap of 22% and 29% respectively. Then, showing the highest percentage of online sales for the whole year of 2013 was the film and music sector at staggering 33%.
