The pie charts compare the proportions of boys and girls who participate in a range of cultural and leisure activities.
Overall, the two genders display markedly different preferences: boys are more inclined towards computer games and sports, whereas girls favour dancing and reading. Listening to music is the only activity that attracts an identical proportion of participants in both groups.
Computer games account for the largest share of boys’ participation, at 34%, more than twice the corresponding figure for girls, at 16%. The reverse pattern is evident for reading: 21% of girls participate in this activity, compared with a mere 2% of boys. Listening to music, by contrast, represents exactly 10% of participation in each group.
The remaining activities also reveal differences in preference. Dancing is the most popular activity among girls, accounting for 27%, while basketball represents a similar proportion among boys, at 26%. Among boys, soccer and skateboarding account for 17% and 11%, respectively. For girls, the corresponding figures for netball and gymnastics are 15% and 11%.
