The pie chart below shows the results of a survey on children’s participation in cultural and leisure activities, specifically by gender.
Overall, boys tend to favor physical and technical activities such as computer games, basketball and soccer. In contrast, girls tended to favor physical and creative activities such as dance, reading and gymnastics.
Boys preferred computer games, which accounted for 34% of their activities, followed by basketball (26%) and soccer (17%). Activities such as skateboarding and listening to music accounted for 11% and 10% respectively. Reading was the least preferred activity by boys, accounting for only 2% of their total participation.
Girls, on the other hand, showed different preferences: dancing was the most popular activity with 27%, followed closely by reading with 21%. Computer games accounted for 16% of girls’ activities, while netball and gymnastics accounted for 15% and 11% of their choices respectively. Similar to boys, listening to music was also a favorite pastime for girls, accounting for 10% of leisure activities.
