The table shows how much oil four countries produced each day between 2000 and 2004.Overall, Nigeria and Congo were the biggest producers, but Congo’s output fell steadily, while Chad and Somalia started from a very low level and grew a lot. By 2004, Nigeria was the top producer.
Congo produced the most oil in 2000, at 275,000 units. After that, its production dropped every year and reached 203,000 in 2004. Nigeria’s figures were more mixed. They went down from 205,000 in 2000 to 190,000 in 2002, but then rose to 210,000 in 2003 and 213,000 in 2004. So Nigeria overtook Congo in 2003.
Chad and Somalia produced much less. Chad produced no oil at all in 2000, 2001 and 2002, then started with 8,000 in 2003 and jumped to 50,000 in 2004. Somalia grew every year, from 5,000 in 2000 to 50,000 in 2004, which means its production became ten times bigger. In 2004, Chad and Somalia produced the same amount
