Overall, while the figures for All ages, 40-64 and 65+ increased considerably, the number of individuals under 15 and 15-39 age categories experienced a slight decline. In addition, 65+ age group recorded a significant rise over the period.
Focusing on increases first, starting at 1,334,907 number in 2011, the number of people in 40-64 age group increased to 1,339,898 in 2012. Likewise, the figure for people aged 65 and over age group started at 573,946 number in 2011 and this was followed by a considerable growth to 596,903 in the next year. Both age group changes measured in percentages, the former showed 0.6 %, the latter experienced a 4%.
Turning to the remaining categories, the number of young people under 15the youngest age group set witnessed a slight decline in 2012, from 898,160 to 896,364. Adults between 15-39 age bracket showed a moderate drop from 1,577,256 to 1,574,102 in 2012. Percentagewise, both categories experienced the same -0.2 % decline over the period.
