The table illustrates the number of people falling in 4 different age groups in New Zealand from 2011 to 2012, along with the growth rate.
Overall, the New Zealand population increased by 0.6% in total. While the figures for the people aged older than 40 experienced a slight increase, the opposite trend was seen in those of the younger age.
Looking first at the two groups that both slightly declined by 0.2% in 2012, while the number of people who were in the 15-39 category made up the largest portion of the population in both years with 1,577,256 and 1,574,102 respectively, that of people under 15 remained the second least figure in the 2 years with 898,160 in 2011 and 896,634 in 2012.
1,331,907 people in New Zealand were in the 40-64 age bracket in 2011, after which it saw an increase by 0.6% to 1,339,898 people in 2012. It is also noticeable that the figures of the over 65 group saw a biggest rise by 4% but still end the period with the least portion (573,946 in 2011 and 596,903 in 2012)
