The table illustrates the share of population in five countries who used public transport to commute in 2000, 2010 and 2020.
Overall, in each country the percentage of commuters who used public transport always grew every ten years from 2000 to 2020. In Japan the proportion of people using public transport was the largest in 2000 among all countries and it remained such in both 2010 and 2020. USA shows the opposite result as in each column it has the smallest percentage.
Australia had only 15% of people who travelled to work using public transport, but by 2020 it rose by 13 percentage points which is the largest increase among all countries in the table. Canada also showed a considerable increase growing by 5 percentage points every 10 years and reaching 32% by 2020.
The share allocated to German commuters rose from 35% to 42% between 2000 and 2020. Japan showed the same increase in percentage points over 20 years, but started with 48%. USA started with only 12% and grew by 6 percentage points which is the smallest increase.
