Overall, the percentage of users aged 16 to 30 and 31 to 50 after decreasing slightly during 3-year period, have remained relatively high nonetheless. The figure of individuals aged 15 and below had increased over the period, while number of elderly people of age 50 and above increased slightly in 1999, remaining unchanged after.
Young adults and teenagers aged 16 to 30 years accounted for the largest share of internet use in 1998, making up approximately 50 percent of people online in Taiwan. However, by 1999 their proportion dropped to 43, to hit the low of 42 percent in 2000. Likewise, middle aged people aged 31 to 50 constituted 40 percent of internet dwellers in Taiwan in 1998, being second largest age group regarding web usage. Subsequently, their percentage decreased to 38 in 1999, hitting the low of 37 in 2000.
The younger cohort aged 15 and below experienced a steady rise, increasing from barely abover zero percents in 1998 to about six percents in 1998, reaching a high of eight percents in 2000. Elderly people, on the other hand, experienced little no change, increasing from approximately four percents in 1998 to eight percents in 1999 and remaining constant in 2000.
