The data from six major cities throughout the world—Los Angeles, Tokyo, Washington DC, Kyoto, and London—that offer underground transportation is displayed in the table.Three criteria are being used to compare this data: the system’s opening date, its distance, and the number of passenger it gets annually.
The Tokyo and London systems have significant differences, with Tokyo’s underground rails handling over 1927 million more passengers annually than London’s 775 million. The longest distance is at least 394 km, while Kyoto’s underground tunnels have the quickest path of 11 km. Los Aneles’ train systems, built in 2001, receive the second-fewest annual visits, behind Kyoto’s system. The Tokyo and London systems have the fewest yearly visitors.
The Tokyo and London systems differ noticeably from one another. The Tokyo system was constructed in 1927, while the London system dates back to 1863. In contrast to London’s railways, which see approximately 775 million passengers annually, Tokyo’s underground railways see nearly 1927 million more riders annually.
Upon closer inspection, the London Underground system’s figures show that the longest distance is at least 394 kilometres. However, the shortest route, covering about 11 kilometres, is found in Kyoto’s subterranean systems. In addition, they receive the fewest annual visitors out of the five systems listed. The railway systems in Los Aneles, which were constructed in 2001, are the newest and receive the second fewest visitors per year, after Kyoto’s system, which receives roughly 50 and 45 million visitors annually, respectively.
This table demonstrates which underground railway systems, despite being extremely old, require extension because of the high volume of passengers they receive.
