According to the chart, London underground, which was opened in 1863 with the longest route of 394 km, is the earliest established and used by 775 m people each year, while those in Paris (1900) and Tokyo (1927) are the most popular ones, serving 1191m and 1928 m passengers annually in the routes of 199 km and 155 km of lengths respectively.
When it comes to metro systems that were constructed relatively later, Washington DC opened in 1976 carries 144 m commuters through the route of 126 km, whereas Los Angeles (2001) is the newest with much shorter length of 28 km and serves 50 m people per year. Kyoto (1981) has the shortest route among all 6 systems of subway with just 11 km and used by the least number of passengers with 45 m per annum.
