The table provides information about students studying in six departments in an Australian university in 2009.
Overall, a large proportion of women enrolled in English, whereas Chemistry was the lowest. Additionally, Modern languages ranked first in terms of non-native English students and those who were born outside Australia.
Focusing on the department enrollment initially, 67% of women studied English, followed closely by Modern languages and history, whose respective figures stood at 63% and 58%. Math ranked fourth at 42%, which was higher than Physics and Chemistry, at 37% and 29, respectively.
Turning to the non-native English category, the proportion for Modern Languages was 41%, compared to Physics at 38% and math at 36%, while Chemistry recorded 32%. In contrast, both English and History comprised below 20%.
As for those who were born outside Australia, Modern Languages recorded the highest proportion at 54%, whereas Chemistry ranked second at 47%. Similarly, the figure for physics was 44%, which was slightly higher than that of Math at 43%. The figures for English and History, on the other hand, were relatively lower in comparison with other categories, at 27% and 18% respectively.
