The table displays the numbers of people who took the seven most popular airlines in the United States in two separate years: 1995 and 2005.
Overall, it is evident that all these seven airlines experienced growth in the decade. However, Delta Air Lines remained most popular among the seven throughout the period.
In 1995, Delta Air Lines’s annual passenager number was more than 500 thousand (500,700), which was the highest in that year, over 100 thousand bigger than the second popular Southwest Airlines (400,000). United Airlines was in the third place, with the number of 300,000 people, which doubled the figure for American Airlines ranking in 4th place. The three least popular airlines were Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue Airways, at 120,00, 10,000 and 8,6000, respectively.
Ten year later, all the airline compaies saw rise in the number of passengers with various growth rates without significant changes in the ranking among the seven airlines. JetBlue Airways enjoyed the highest growth rate of 249%, making it the only airline with a growth rate over 200% and overtaking Hawaiian Airlines to be the 6th. Four airlines witnessed a growth rate over 100%; they were Delta Air Lines (113%), American Airlines (127%), Alaska Airlines (114%) and Hawaiian Airlines (150%).
