The table presents information on the number of marathon participants from two age categories, namely those aged 18 to 39 and those aged 40 and above, along with the combined total, over five years from 2008 to 2012.
Overall, a consistent upward trend was observed across all three figures throughout the period. The 18-39 age group accounted for a greater number of participants in every year and also recorded a more notable increase compared to the older cohort.
Regarding the two individual age brackets, the number of runners in the 18-39 category stood at 1,200 in 2008, which was 400 higher than that of the 40+ group, at 800. Over the following four years, the younger cohort demonstrated a steady rise, eventually reaching 1,750 participants by 2012, a gain of 550 runners. Similarly, but less substantially, the 40+ group also climbed during this period, growing from its initial figure of 800 to 1,050 in 2012, an increase of only 250 participants.
With regard to the total number of marathon runners, 2,000 participants took part in 2008. This figure rose progressively in subsequent years, passing through 2,400 in 2010, before reaching a peak of 2,800 by 2012, representing an overall increase of 800 participants, or 40%, over the five years.
