Overall, regarding the amount of production, Asia and Oceania have the highest figure while South and Central America and Africa recorded the lowest quantity. Moreover, Europe outperforms Asia and Oceania in the average mass of potatoes consumed per capita despite the second-mentioned region being the largest potato producer.
In terms of potato production, Asia and Oceania lead the table with 131.2 million tonnes, this is closely followed by Europe with 126.3 million tons. The other regions produced much less, with North America outputting 24.7 million tonnes. Whereas, South and Central America, and Africa produced 15.6 million and 16.4 million tonnes, in that order.
Regarding the consumption per person of the same vegetable, Europe had the highest figure, averaging 96.1 kg consumed by an individual. This was distantly followed by North America, with a mean of 57.9 kg of potato per consumer. Notably, Asia and Oceania had similar figures to those of South and Central America, despite the former being the largest producer and the latter being the smallest producer(25.8 kg per capita and 23.6 kg per capita, respectively). Finally, Africa had the lowest consumption with 14.1 kilograms of potato, per person.
