The given table compares the production of potatoes in million tonnes with the consumption in kg per person in the year 2006, in five regions of the world, which are South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia. It can be observed that production of potatoes in Europe and Asia were significantly higher than the other regions in therms of consumption.
The production of potatoes in Europe and Asia, which is 126.3 and 131.2 million tonnes respectively, is substantially greater than those of in different regions of America and Africa, which range in between 15 to 25 million tonnes.
Whereas, the Africa showed least consumption, which is 14.1 kg per person in the year 2006. While South America and Asia reported approximately 24 kg per person consumption of potatoes. North America and Europe were major consumers, with 57.9 kg and 96.1 kg potatoes per person respectively.
Overall, it can be said that in the year 2006, Europe being major producer, also consumed highest amount of potatoes followed by North America.
