The tables illustrate how many potatoes were used and produced in five different countries in 2006.
Overall, Asia dominated the production of potatoes, while the usage was a little. Conversely, the figures in both consumption and production of this food in Europe accounted for the significant numbers.
The majority of potatoes were eaten by Europeans, with 96.1 kg per person. North America ranked in second place with 57.9 kg, which more than doubled that in Asia. By contrast, in terms of production, Asia emerged as the highest figure, with 131.2 million tons, followed closely behind by Europe, with 126,300,000 tonnes. In addition, the yield of potatoes in North America was only 24.7 million.
South and Central America harvested the lowest number of potatoes, with 15.6 million, which surpassed that in Africa, with 16.4 million. On the contrary, the figures for usage in both of them were 23.6 kg and 14.1 kg per person, respectively.
