The first chart illustrates the gender distribution of the students who study foreign languages in 1984 and 2007. In the second chart, the language preferences of the individuals are shown for the corresponding years.
It is clearly presented in the first graph that girls are more into learning modern foreign languages compared to boys. Even though the total number of students are decreased over time, girls are persistently more interested in the field. The declining percentage is obvious when the set of values from two different time points are compared.
Graph of the language preferences exhibits the popularity of French, accounting for half of the students in 1984. Despite of losing half of its value, with twenty five percent French kept being interested for the largest group of students in 2007. Spanish was the only one which gained prevalence over the years. However it was always the least studied language among all, with ten percent. Students learning German preserved their position as the second largest group, besides their shrinkage over the years.
