The two pie-charts illustrate the major energy sources in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s. The five sources of energy presented are oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric power and nuclear power.
Overall, oil remains the biggest source of energy. Natural gas, coal, and nuclear power show a slight rise, while hydroelectric power remains the smallest contributor of energy, exhibiting no change.
In 1980s, oil was the largest share holder, followed by natural gas and coal with a contribution of 42%, 26%, and 22%, respectively. Hydroelectric and nuclear energy had a minimal contribution of 5% each.
In 1990s, the percentage of oil dropped to 33%, yet its position as the top most share holder was sustained. Natural gas and coal showed a slight rise at 25% and 27% respectively. But the biggest growth was observed for nuclear energy which doubled from 5% in the 1980s to 10% in 1990s.
