The pie charts illustrates the global consumption of energy and generation of electricity through various sources in the past year.

It is observed that oil, gas and coal holds the major share in terms of global energy consumption. Approximately 75% of the energy consumption was through these fossil fuels. Combustible renewables and wastes and nuclear contributed 10.6 and 6.5% respectively. Hydro and other sources were the least used globally.

All over the world coal was widely used for electricity generation, nearly 40% was produced through it. It is interesting to note that, oil which holds the major share in energy consumption, a small proportion 6.7% of electricity was generated through it. However, most of the production was carried out through renewable energy sources. Hydro and nuclear accounted for over 30% in electricity production. Furthermore, gas has a similar percentage of 19.6% and other sources accounted for only 2.1%.

Overall, it can be seen that fossil fuels are widely used all for various purposes over the globe, but there is a noticeable shift in the use of these sources for electricity production. Renewable energy sources tend to have a significant proportion for the production of electricity.
