Overall, It can be seen that while the contribution of domestic sewage and offshore oil saw an upward trend. The figures for the remaining categories were on the decline. Additionally, domestic sewage recorded the most significant changes during the period.
18% was the figure for domestic sewage and was the third biggest percentage in 1997. Afterward, it rose to 29% and became the most pollutant in 2007. Offshore oil also increased significantly from 5% to 14% in 2007.
Although the proportion of pollutants from air decreased, it was still the highest in the 7 categories throughout the period and shared the figure with domestic sewage in 2007. From 1997 to 2007, it was clear that the percentage of 4 remaining categories went down. The contribution of litter was 4% before it disappeared in 2007. 22% was the share of marine which was the second highest percentage in 1997. Then it fell to 18% in 2007. The percentage of industrial waste had a marked drop from 17% to 9% in 2007. The remaining 4% was allocated to farm waste in 1997 and dropped to 2% in 2007.
