In detail, tennis consistently recorded the highest number, stood at 50,000 and 55,000 in 1997 and 2017, respectively. Notably, a similar pattern can be observed in football and rugby. Their figures, both recorded just above 30,000 in 1997, and climbed to nearly 50,000 by 2017. Likewise, although the number of participants in basketball merely reached around 10,000, this figure more than doubled by 2017 at 21,000. The population of golf showed a slight growth, inching from 31,000 in 1997 to 32,000 by 2017.
By contrast, 25,000 adults had engaged in cricket in 1997, whereas this figure declined to below 10,000 by 2017. Swimming recorded the same figures during the given period at 35,000.
