Dear Alex,

I hope you are having a wonderful vacation. I am writing to apologize for something unfortunate that happened while I was staying at your house.

Yesterday evening, while I was cleaning the living room, I accidentally knocked over the beautiful vase that was placed on the table near the window. It fell to the floor and broke into several pieces before I had a chance to catch it. I felt terrible the moment it happened, especially because I know the vase is valuable and meaningful to you.

I am truly sorry for my carelessness. I feel very upset and guilty about the incident, as you kindly trusted me to look after your home while you were away.

To make up for the damage, I would like to replace the vase or cover the full cost of repairing or buying a new one, whichever you prefer. Please let me know what you would like me to do, and I will arrange it immediately.

Once again, I sincerely apologize and hope you can forgive my mistake. I hope you continue enjoying your holiday, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
