In contrast, basketball had the lowest participation in 1997.
The bar chart demonstrates that tennis maintained its lead and increased by around 5,000, reaching about 55,000 by the end of the period. By contrast, cricket dropped substantially, bottoming out under 8,000, becoming the least popular sport by 2017. Moreover, football and rugby surged considerably, experiencing a moderate increase by around 17,500 in 2017, rising to nearly 50,000.
