In 1980, American commuters who used car were 6 million and then fall slightly in 1990 reaching lower than 6 million. In 2000 the number of travelers using cars rose reaching 7 million. Then , the number fluctuated until it hit 8 million in 2020. The number of commuters who use car are predicted to rise and will peak at over 9 million in 2040. Similarly, trains users were 5 million in 1980 and the number varied over the years 1990,200,2010 and 2020 expected to rise to reach 7 million.
In contrast , the number of travelers using bus was 4 million in 1980 and fall over the years until it reached about 2.5 million in 2020. It will continue falling in 2030 and 2040 .
