Dear Sam,
I hope you’re well. I’m writing to apologise sincerely for missing our meeting yesterday. I feel awful about it, especially because I know how important the event was for you.
Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the time as I was helping my younger brother prepare for an exam. What I thought would take a few minutes turned into the whole afternoon, and by the time I finally checked my phone, it was far too late. I realise this is no excuse, but I wanted you to know that it wasn’t because I didn’t care.
I am genuinely sorry for letting you down. You had every right to expect me to be there, and I know my absence must have been frustrating and disappointing.
To make up for it, I’d love to take you out for dinner this weekend so you can tell me all about how the event went. If that doesn’t suit you, let me know what works best – I really want the chance to apologise properly in person.
Thanks for understanding, and I hope we’re still good.
Warm wishes,
Yan
