Dear Jude,
I hope it’s going well with your college project. Today I write to you about the importance of New Year in my country.
For Egyptians, celebrating the New Year is not a modern practice. It’s more of a traditional festival than anything else. Ancient Egyptians had their own New Year celebrations, though based on a different calendar and timing.
New Year’s Eve in Egypt is incomparable; the atmosphere is so magical that you must experience it to truly appreciate it. It is a national holiday, giving people time to spend with their beloved families.
Some people also take this opportunity to travel abroad, seeking new experiences with different cultures. Particularly, mature individuals sometimes feel they have lost the excitement for simple joys like New Year celebrations.
What I love most about New Year celebrations in my country is the sense of unity and joy it brings. People from all backgrounds come together to celebrate, whether at home, in public squares, or along the Nile River. The fireworks, music, and cheerful spirit create an unforgettable ambiance, making it a truly special occasion.
For example, last year, my friends and I traveled to Dahab. While it is best known as a summer destination, we wanted to try something different. Celebrating New Year’s Eve on the Red Sea beach with friends was a moment I will cherish forever.
Your friend,
Khaled
