Dear Hari,

Thank you for inviting me to your birthday party. I regret to inform you that I can’t join your celebration due to a prior commitment.

Let me explain. I have always wanted to visit Darjeeling and it’s my most favourite place. We have planned a 5 days trip to Darjeeling with family and we are starting on the day of your birthday. I really wish to be with you on your special day and to make it up, I have a surprise for you which you will receive on your birthday.

We shall meet up in our regular spot upon my return and celebrate once again. Sending you my advance wishes.
