There is a view that people can learn the history by watching movies instead of reading historical books. Although learning the history from books bring some benefits, I firmly believe that dramas in films and on TV is greater way of discovering the history.
One of the advantages of learning from books is that individuals are not disturbed easily. The vast majority of humans check out the internet while watching historical films. When they watch movies on their mobile phones, the likelihood of receiving messages from others is high. So they tend to check social media in the middle of the film, reducing the level of concentration. On top of that, there are also some ads on TV throughout the drama, resulting in the loss of focus. However, in the process of reading books, humans only focus on learning, increasing the efficiency of the process.
On the other hand, watching TV and movies are more efficient option. One major positive is visualisation. During reading, some individuals struggle with imagining every thing they read in books but whenever they watch, there is no need for imagination as every detail is shown vividly, helping humans to feel themselves in those days and understand the atmosphere of ancient days.
Furthermore, reading books require some efforts to visualize and understand, making humans feel tired. In fact, many people learn the history in their leisure times whenever they are free from their studies or works. Therefore, watching films and TV is preferred way as they can relax at the same time of learning. For example, after hard work or study, humans want to have a rest, that’s why they prefer watching movies to reading books.
In conclusion, while history learners can avoid from disturbance by reading books, they are not as significant as the upwards of watching such as good visualization and enjoyment of watching films and dramas.
