In today’s technology development age, modern devices, such as computers, laptops, and smartphones are used as convinient equipments for a majority of people to own. Thus, this leads to the growing trend of working from home. Although there are some drawbacks associated with this trend, I believe the benefits are more significant.
There are several demerits of remote working. Initially, there is a lack of communication and teamwork. A person who works from home is a single worker, so there are no regular meetings and communications with other workers to complete their job assignments. This may lead to the reduction of human interaction and they are not able to get communal experience of being on a team. The second drawback is that it is difficult for employers to manage their employees at a distance. Security and productivity are the two vital issues that most companies consider. On the other hand, they will not control them if their distant staff give away secret information or are lazy while working. Consequently, it negatively affect their work performance and productivity.
However, I would argue that these drawbacks are outweighed by the benefits. Working from home provides individuals with flexibilities. A remote worker can work at any time, anywhere that they want to, for instance, starting to work late in the morning or working in a coffee shop. As a result, they can have extra time for themselves to do other activities or to understand their strengths and weaknesses and grow personally. In addition, it is advantageous to enhance the entire environment owing to distant work. The decline in people who use means of transportation to commute to work can help the environment be cleaned of exhaust fumes and noise pollution. Therefore, working from home offers both individuals and society benefits.
In conclusion, although workers and companies might face work ineffectiveness and lack of skills while working, these disadvantanges are insignificant in comparison with the advantages for individuals and society.
