Whether the growth of tourism brings profits to the government or not has become a subject of debate in recent years. While I can sympathize with both sides of the argument, I fundamentally believe that tourism is an essential component of country’s budget and should be maintained for economic and well-being purposes.
To begin with, the first and foremost reason for the significance of tourism is that it provides employment opportunities, tourism revenue and social cohesion. To be more precise, tourism revenue contributes to the economic growth of local communities and jobs created as a result of tourism activities. Secondly, it gives a sense of unity and belonging within community by bringing people together.
Despite the above-mentioned arguments, I believe that an increasing number of tourists can lead to higher accommodation prices and overcrowding in cities, which negatively affects local residents and may disrupt their social harmony. Furthermore, in some countries it can led to social erosion. To illustrate in many popular tourism destinations like Barcelona we can observe that, housing has become one of the biggest problems.
In conclusion, although international trips have some negative side effects, I am strongly in favour of the positive sides because of the economic growth despite many problems it brings to people welfare and various facilities. If tourism management is in the right direction, it can bring many positive aspects not only to locals’ lives but also to tourists and can improve the power of countries and lead to worldwide recognition.
