Band 6+: A ban on all forms of advertising is beneficial to society because it serves no useful purpose, and can even be damaging. Do you agree or disagree?

There are some opinions that advertisements are useless and harmful, so it should be banned. In my opinion, I disagree with an outright ban for advertising because not all advertisements are damaging for society.

There is no denying that some types of advertisements are damaging to society and ought to be completely prohibited. In the first place, advertisements that are misleading the audience by exaggerating the merits of the products are supposed to ban. For example, cosmetic advertisements normally use celebrities with flawless skin to endorse their products to persuade users. However, when they buy and use their goods which are not available as on advertising. In addition, there are some advertisements encourage viewers unnecessary spending. Many companies use marketing strategies to make products seem more attractive, even when people do not need them. For example, they frequently release new models, encouraging consumers to upgrade even when their current phones are still functional. This lead to form a wasteful lifestyle and a materialistic mindset.

However, advertisements codes of ethics should be allowed to continue as they offer great benefits to businesses and consumers. First, advertising is important for companies, especially small ones. Without advertising, new businesses would struggle to attract customers. For example, a small coffee shop might use social media to promote its drinks. If advertising is banned, small – sized businesses may fail, leading to job losses and economic problems. Another reason advertising should not be forbidden is that it provides useful information. Many advertisements help viewers is cover new items and services that improve their lives. For example, public health campaigns warn audience about smoking and encourage exercise. Therefore, advertising can bring some benefits, instead of prohibiting the government should strictly censor the content of the advertisements.

All in all, a ban on advertising should be imposed that it is unjustifiable because not all advertisements bring advantages.
