A rising number of wildlife species are facing the threat of extinction, or have been categorized to endangered list. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this phenomenon and propose a possible solution.
The main factors that contribute to this problem are industrialization and global poaching. The majority of countries with developed infrastructure have been cutting down natural habitats of animals such as forests, plains and lakes. In consequence, it makes animals’ lives harder as they can’t hunt food or produce more population. Another important factor is illegal hunting. AFRO(African Fauna research Organization) and AWRU(Asian Wildlife Research Union) stated that from the 1960s to 2020s many exotic species populations with horns or rare fur had declined very significantly , overall 10 million dropped to 2 million living species.
To contain and secure habitat areas,WOAH(World Organization for Animal Health) with the help of the UN and nations should prohibit and make stricter laws for poaching to prevent illegal hunting and trade. Firstly, the government must protect natural environments by creating more national parks where human activity is not allowed. Planting new trees and restoring natural forests would also give animals a safe place to live and grow. Secondly, Police should guard protected areas better, and hunters who break the law should be punished with heavy prison sentences or pay high fines.
In conclusion, wildlife protection should be one of the main priorities in the world because of mass urbanization and illegal hunting across our globe
