In the last century, our world has experienced many advances which have propelled our human race quite ahead. However, in my opinion, these advancements have a negative impact on our physical and mental health. In this essay, I will elaborate these negative consequences further.
In the past 100 years, an exponential growth was observed in the use of screens be it television, mobile phones or computers. Though screens allow us to view many areas without leaving the comfort of our house, it can also put a strain on our eyes which leads to a decreased eyesight. Similarly, the increase in using screens has made us lazy in comparison to our forefathers. This is due to the fact most jobs are done using computers and while seated thus leading to issues like obesity and other spine related health problems.
Physical health issues are not the only drawbacks but our mental health are also affected by technology. Smartphone technology allows people to have easy access to social media. In today’s day, we are exposed to different narratives of perfect lives on social media which leads to a sense of inferiority complex. This sense of complex can be a cause of self-harm in teenagers. In fact a study done a few years ago has shown that people of this generation are more depressed than their grandfather’s generation.
Although, technology has brought much ease in to our lives, it has also made our lives troublesome in some ways. Our physical health is affected by the lack of exercise and movement. Additionally, our mental health is adversely impacted by the perfection perpetuated by social media.
