Artificial intelligence, or AI, is considered to be a part of our daily lives in this modernized world. People are aware of the rapid innovation in the brain of robots, and it is undeniable that as the world continues to develop the technology and science fields, AI can be programmed to serve us not only house chores and small tasks, but can replace us to do our jobs with its professions and coded experiences. There are concerns raised that people ought to gain more advanced skills to compete against robots for employment, while on the other hand, some people believe that it is not necessary. In this essay, I will discuss the two viewpoints and give my personal opinion.
Firstly, the competition between humans and robots in job employment is tense. Adults are overwhelmed with the pressure of their jobs taken by innovative and modern machines, therefore they work hard to still have a job. It is indisputable that almost every job requires academic qualifications and many skills obtained to get a job in society. While teenagers force themselves into studying to attend universities to pursue their future careers, robots in general do not need as much time as humans do. All they need is to be programmed with skills, and they can start completing tasks without much effort. Many people are afraid of losing their jobs if they cannot beat machines in experiences and information, hence they put their heads into studying and gaining knowledge, in order to compete against inventive AIs. The world is changing at a crazily speeding pace, and people are expected to adapt to changes and build a continuously growing knowledge base. With humans fighting over robots for jobs, it can be an opportunity for us to learn new information and simultaneously develop ourselves.
However, it might not be a necessity for people to compete against AI to get jobs. Everyone acknowledges that robots’ brains can capture new information at a racing pace, much faster than humans do. AIs are targeted to be able to handle jobs that require complex skills with a wide range of knowledge needed. For example, the medical field is expected to be one of robots’ future jobs, because this field of study involves subjects that are categorized as difficult and complicated for humans. Doctor is one of the jobs that will be replaced by AI, sooner or later. AI will be programmed to study all the essential information, and can complete tasks with ease. Moreover, there are people who do not view the problem of AI taking over jobs after jobs too seriously, because there are, in fact, jobs that AI cannot accomplish. Jobs that are related to human emotions and behaviour can benefit people, because AI’s weakest point is having no expressions of feelings. Psychologist is one of the jobs that are well – known for the ability to comprehend one’s feelings and decipher human behaviours and personalities. People might not have an immaculate amount of knowledge as robots do, but we have emotions, an element that robots do not have. With this advantage, people can still be employed despite the overtaking of jobs of AI and robots.
In conclusion, I believe that we should not be competing with robots for jobs. Considering academic background, we cannot beat them with their ability to gain information continuously. Instead, there are always jobs for us that AI cannot accomplish as well as us. In the future, even though many jobs were handled by robots and AI, jobs that are related to human emotions and behaviours will be people’s considerate advantage, with everything combined, the world will continue to develop, at a faster pace.
