Nowadays, individuals purchasing what they need online is becoming a more common habit. This new trend carries both advantages and disadvantages for the consumer and the provider. In this essay both sides, the good and the bad, of online shopping will be discussed.
Shopping online has many beneficial aspects. For instance, everything needed in a household could be bought by a few clicks. This allows more time to be spent on other areas at home, such as finding time to do chores, or allocating more time to be spent with family. Additionally, this method of shopping is also advantageous for the companies providing the products. They allow them to market their items more efficiently since more and more people are using technology in their day to day lives. Hence, a simple screen pop up could do more to the said company than in real life advertisements, brining in more customers and costing less.
On the other hand, the ease of everything being a few swipes away makes it more likely for people to buy unnecessary things. For example, items might be polished to seem as a need, but when bought they will be thrown away from their lack of use. Moreover, companies are deprived from the chance of allowing potential buyers from trying their products prior to their purchase. This is a downside especially since return policies are becoming more common lately. Thereby if an individual does not like what they have purchased online they can simply return it causing financial losses to the company as most of the times cannot resell it.
In conclusion, using online platforms to buy necessities is significantly increasing. While it has its advantages such as making the process easier for both the individual and company. It also has its downsides such as overconsumption for the consumer and financial losses for the provider.
