Many people, often swayed by the omnipresent pressure of media and advertising, resort to cosmetic surgery in the hopes of becoming more attractive to potential partners. The role of commercial marketing is to promote products, frequently by projecting unrealistic standards of beauty. For instance, although there are only a select few supermodels globally, they promote an ideal of beauty that is largely unattainable for the majority. Instead of challenging these superficial norms, some individuals who have the financial means opt to emulate this image through surgical enhancements. This mindset is further reinforced by social media platforms and telemarketing, which perpetuate the idea that cosmetic surgery is socially acceptable and a guaranteed way to become irresistibly attractive.
From my perspective, this trend is unequivocally harmful. First and foremost, a person’s true worth should be defined by their inner qualities rather than their outward appearance. Promoting the notion that physical beauty is of paramount importance propagates a distorted set of values. Furthermore, the resources and expertise of surgeons performing cosmetic procedures could be redirected towards treating individuals with life-threatening conditions. Operating theatres, which are currently being used for elective surgeries, could be better utilized for essential medical operations. Lastly, undergoing cosmetic procedures can pose significant risks to one’s health. All surgeries involve potential complications, and cosmetic operations are no exception, occasionally resulting in adverse outcomes.
In conclusion, although various explanations can be offered to justify this phenomenon, I am convinced that it represents a profoundly negative trend.
