Nowadays, metropolitan areas are witnessing a large number of immigrants. This results from better employment opportunities and education, which consequently leads to a pressure on the urban resources and environmental degradation.
There are two main reasons for this trend. Firstly, the purpose of individuals relocating to big cities is for better job opportunities and education. Most large companies and prestigious universities are often located in urban areas, which provide citizens better options for moving up their career ladder and academic pursuit. In addition, this immigrating trend is also associated with better living standards. Big cities are typically provided with good infrastructure compared to rural areas, including transportation, healthcare systems, and leisure activities. This tends to offer an enhancement in the quality of life and lead to a sense of fulfillment for individuals.
The effects of this trend are varied. That more people opt to immigrate to big cities could potentially cause constraint on resources. To be specific, an inordinate amount of people residing in urban areas is attributable to the increase in population density, which often leads to overcrowding and causes the real estate price to soar. For example, the recent house price in Hanoi is increasing at an accelerating rate, decreasing the chance for the middle-income class to purchase one. Secondly, overpopulation is one of the main reasons for environmental degradation. Since overpopulation is mostly involved with increased demand in traffic, this would tend to result in worsening noise and air pollution. In the long run, it may contribute to the decrease in the citizen’s physical health.
In conclusion, a great amount of individuals chose to reside in big cities for the purpose of better career advancement and education. The impacts of this trend could create pressures on resource and negative impact on dweller’s health. The government should take corrective actions in order to relieve these burdens on society.
