While animals being on urge of extinction, a minority of people proclaims that only useful ones must be saved. This essay strongly disagrees with such a statement. Firstly, every species are key to biodiversity. Secondly, this might lead to the destruction of the foodchain.
It is evident that biodiversity is essential for evolution. That is, many species have different functions in immune systems, in safety mechanisms, which were developed through out the centuries. This functions are worthful for pharmacoligists and researchers of human body to improve medical treatments. The primary example of that is honey badger. They have developed a unique immune system, which for us is still mystery, that they easily survive cobra’s poison. Moreover, it is hypothised that they take a pleasure from their poison. In future, they can be used to develop medicaments to save people’s life.
In our biosphere prey-hunter is a system,which keeps balance in our foodchain, that can be easily destroyed by extinction of one animal species. Every grass-eating species has corresponding hunters, so when the population of one decreases, the other’s increases and so on. It keeps the balance between them, and if we break that balance artificially, it can lead to disastreous ramifications. For instance, in 1980s, rabbits were colonized to Australia, which did not have natural hunters in that continent. As a result, they are destroying farms out there because of multiplying too much.
In conclusion, we must keep all animal species because of threats such as decrease in biodiversity and destruction of the food chain.
