In the modern era dominated by the drastic growth of technology and science,the advent of mobile phones has served as a game changer for the way people communicate with others. Using phones for professional and personal purposes at any time has become viable for individuals. From my perspective, I assert that this development constitutes both beneficial and harmful.
Admittedly, taking advantage of the mobile phone makes people’s lives more convenient and productive.In the past, the only ways to make contacts with other individuals living far away were correspondence or using telegram, which was time-consuming and expensive; meanwhile, modern people can make a phone call spontaneously in spite of geographical barriers, saving a lot of time and money. Moreover, mobile phones allow people to handle urgent situations anytime and anywhere. In the business context, mobile phones enable people to directly connect with customers and meet their demands well;thereby boosting efficiency and profits at work. In terms of private life, people can stay informed about the conditions of their relatives as well as ongoing events. Therefore, thanks to mobile phone , individuals can professionally and personally keep in touch with other people, saving time and money and, at times, improving quality of life.
However, despite these aforementioned benefits, having a phone available at anytime still poses serious threats. It is distractions driven by continually calls that take a toll on the phone users. Apart from calls from work and relatives, there have been so many unplanned calls that bombard people and pester them, interfering with their time spent for work or family. In addition, this utility can also blur the line between work and private life as people have to be always ready to engage in phone calls related to work. In the long term, being doomed to suffer from stress and irritation is inevitable.
In conclusion, I believe that the advantages of this trend do not eclipse the disadvantages and vice versa. Even though the onset of mobile phones will offer various benefits namely cost and time saving and helping people stay informed, it still give rise to distractions as well as threat to work-life balance.
