Band 8+: Art is considered an essential part of all cultures throughout the world. However, these days fewer and fewer people appreciate art and turn their focus to science, technology and business. Why do you think this is? What could be done to encourage more people to take interest in the arts?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In modern times, most people tend to prioritize science, technology, and business over art, which remains an integral part of human culture. This problem is attributed to many reasons, and some measures can be taken to address it.

There are two main reasons why many people find themselves uninterested in art. One significant reason behind the diminishing interest in art is the lack of proper art education. In many countries, including Vietnam, art is undervalued and underfunded in the educational system. Students are often exposed to only two or three art lessons per week, compared to over ten lessons dedicated to science-related subjects. This imbalance worsens as students transition into high school, where art education is almost entirely excluded from the curriculum. Another contributing factor is the disparity in career opportunities between the arts and other fields. Careers in science, technology, and business are seen as more stable and lucrative, offering regular income and financial security. In contrast, many artistic careers are associated with low pay and unpredictable earnings, making them less appealing to students who prioritize financial stability. As a result, they gravitate toward more economically promising fields, further widening the gap between society and the arts.

Two following solutions can help solve this problem. A multifaceted approach is necessary. First and foremost, integrating art education into the standard curriculum at all levels is essential. By providing students with regular exposure to artistic disciplines, they can better appreciate the beauty and importance of art. Additionally, schools should promote extracurricular activities that encourage artistic expression, such as drama performances, art clubs, and music lessons. These initiatives can foster a deeper connection to the arts and inspire creativity among young people.Furthermore, creating more job opportunities for artists and individuals in related industries, such as event management, marketing, tourism, and education, is vital. Governments and organizations should consider implementing policies that support the arts, such as funding cultural programs and preserving artistic traditions. For instance, laws could be introduced to protect cultural heritage, ensuring that art remains an integral part of society and continues to celebrate diversity.
