Nowadays, a growing number of people are relying heavily on artificial intelligence for decision-making various aspects of their lives. I contend that over-reliance damage people’s cognitive abilities and has negative consequences for both individuals and society. One major problem is a diminishing capacity to think rationally and make decisions independently. This can be addressed by ensuring that AI only assists and individuals remain responsible for their final choices.
The emerging trend is relying on AI in all possible areas of our lives. This way of solving problems may be seen appealing, because artificial intelligence is a tool to facilitate the process of decision-making. However, those who opt for laying the major part of the responsibilities on AI risks to experience a reduction in the ability to think critically. Making a decision requires the combination of cognitive skills and humans develop them by observing, analysing and thinking. The key thing is to face with difficulties and try to manage them independently. Thus these vital skills for a human- being will be preserved. The artificial intelligence finds the up-to-date information, works with a large database that allows it to make decision quicker, whereas an individual needs to spend hours thinking and making efforts. Choosing AI people cannot obtain sufficient training for their brain.
It’s worth noting that this problem is not only about lack of ability to think, but also about the sense of presence. Many people tend to ask artificial intelligence how to cope with their own problems in life. This is important to bare in mind that AI doesn’t know all the circumstances and nuances about the situation. In spite of this, individuals lose the sence of presence , continuing to allow artificial intelligence to rule their lives. This problem can be addressed by educating the population about the limitations that assistance has. For instance, schools can run programs where teachers will construe to students how to make decisions based on critical thinking. For the older generation it might be suggested to used devised strategies to cope with problems without putting much efforts.
To summarise, the over-reliance on AI is dentrimental to human brain and leads to major changes in people’s mindsets. Fortunately, this problem can be solved by educating and increasing an awareness worldwide.
