Travelling nowadays is increasingly developing to a point where the growing number of tourists is spoiling certain places. This is has as any effect, some travelling destinations becoming less alluring to the crowd. This could be due to lack of respect of tourists that mindlessly pollute the areas, thinking that a foreign destination as if it’s not their responsibility to keep clean.
The lack of respect is born the moment tourists feel that a small rubbish would not do any harm without estimating the amount of pollution being created if everyone acted recklessly. Another example could be the need of people to find something to take home. This could be from sand from the pink-sanded beach or even pieces of stone from a limestone cave. For instance, the beautiful beach of Elafonisi, captured by its pink sand and shells that could be spotted, has lost most of its beauty due to its visitors wanting to take part of their trip home with them. This had as a result, the owner of this particular beach, no longer being pink.
However, action could be taken to prevent further damage to these beautiful landscapes. By adding suitable bins for every material from one another in short distances, not only can we promote recycling habits to visitors, but also protect the remote parts of the world from unnecessary pollution. Fines could be also applied for people who disobey and act in any way that has a negative impact to the environment around them. This way, each tourist destination will allow visitors to adjust but also learn & impress them positively with the respect the country has towards its land.
In summary, respect for travelling destinations is to be intrinsically become part of a traveller’s mindset. It is created by the respect locals have towards their homeland. So it’s more about showing than telling.
