Nowadays, there is an increasing number of daily use goods being transported over long distances. While this tendency may offer some benefits, I believe that the drawbacks significantly outweigh them.
On the one hand, as the transport industry allows a worldwide trade between countries, this allows them to export products, which they are known for and by that, developing a high-level market and providing the economy with a stable income, which may lead to the increase of people’s quality of life, as well as offering new forms of employment in factories with well-developed and transported worldwide products. However, there is already a dominance of long-existed international markets that control the trade, putting worse-developed countries with no chance to enlighten themselves in the world trade.
From my perspective, the disadvantages significantly outweigh positive ones. The main objection for the long distance transport of the products is the growing risk of an already-existing issue of pollution and greenhouse effect which affect habitats in all places of the planet. By emitting disastrous chemical substances, both animals and people are endangered, making their long-term existence impossible. Another thing is that, numerous people make a living, providing products for the local communities. Offering goods from all over the world will lead them to losing their source of main income and putting them in a risk of poverty, because of native businesses being overtaken by worldwide brands.
In conclusion, even though transporting over long distances may be beneficial in terms of the economy, this advantage is overshadowed by the risk of a greenhouse effect and worse health, as well as a chance for local citizens to be in the state of poverty.
