Fame is a dream intended by many people. However, there are drawbacks of being a popular person such as lack of privacy and a fear from a cancel-culture, while there may be merits, including large amount of money and power to influence. I am of the belief that the downsides can exceed the benefits.
Undoubtedly, being a famous person might wield some desirable advantages. Foremost among them can be that the availability of a great deal of money to spend. This means that famous people may live in a luxurious penthouse with modern conveniences and travel overseas. Consequently, they might feel a sense of life satisfaction and cultural enrichment. Another benefit is that they could have power to influence to public, raising public awareness about the short- and long-term consequences of the current global environmental challenges. A glaring example can be Leonardo di Caprio who launched a campaign to prevent global warming and made contributions the world leaders to collaborate with each other to eliminate public funds to plants which burn fossil fuels, for example gas, oil and coal, to generate electricity. Hence, people may enjoy from popularity.
Popularity, however, surely holds several unfavorable disadvantages. The most significant demerit is lack of privacy, meaning that life of a famous person is came out in the media, for example newspapers and TV programmes, and is discussed among public more often than not. Moreover, public always come before famous people to take an autograph and a photo not to mention paparazzi. As a consequence, they cannot go public places, for instance restaurants, to eat and have to order special places. Furthermore, a popular person obviously suffers from anxiety and distress due to cancel-culture. As a result, there is a likelihood to acquire psychological disorders. Thus, being a popular person certainly yields disadvantages.
In conclusion, while fame may bring some benefits to individuals, including more money and influence, there are certainly several drawbacks, including absence of private life and a public backlash. Hence, in my opinion, the demerits can surpass the advantages.
