Being a celebrity is often viewed as a dream lifestyle, filled with luxuries and attention, yet they still have to deal with numerous problems. In my own perspective, I assume that the downsides are significantly weightier than the advantages it brings.
Fame can definitely offer some certain privileges for well-known individuals that ordinary people could not have. One main benefit of being famous is exclusive opportunities. Celebrities often have widespread networking, which allows them to collaborate with other influential people as well as provide good earnings from high paying jobs. This financial freedom allows them to enjoy glamorous life and pursue their own passion. Besides, famous people are highly valued and gain huge recognition for their talent and hardwork, which boost their self-esteem and give them a sense of accomplishment.
Nevertheless, the existing issues are far more concerning. Loss of privacy is one of the biggest problems since once being well-known, every personal information becomes publicized, from the smallest details to huge drama. Hence, they have to act properly and carefully most of the time to avoid unwanted circumstances, which are relatively uncomfortable. Another substantial drawback is related to mental well-being. With high expectations from society, celebrities bear several pressures to meet the public’s standards and build perfect images. If famous individuals have mistakes or do not behave like what people expected, they might be bashed more harshly and negatively than others. In fact, there were a lot of celebrities, especially in Kpop industry, fall into depression or even commit to suicide after several online harassment and constant cyberbullying from antifan.
In conclusion, although fame brings certain advantages such as wealth and recognition, it also comes with privacy concerns and diminishing mental health. Hence, I am strongly convinced that the disadvantages of being a celebrity can eclipse the merits in the long run.
