Band 6+: Competitiveness is a positive quality for people in most societies. How does competitiveness affect individuals? Is it a positive or negative trend?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent times, many people think that being competitive is good in most societies. Competitiveness can give some benefits to individuals, but it can also bring problems. In my opinion, it is a positive trend if people keep it in control.

On the one hand, competitiveness helps people to work harder and improve themselves. For instance, a student who wants to be the best in class will study more hours and get better marks. Also, competition in the workplace can make employees learn new skills, because they want to get a promotion. This is good for their career and their salary. One more thing is that, some companies tend to be debate with others, because there are some companies which put more effort trying to win.

On the other hand, too much competitiveness can make people feel stress and concern. Some students are afraid of failing, so they can not sleep well and they feel tired all the time. In addition, competitive people sometimes do not care about their friends and family. For instance, a person who only think about winning may lose his friends because he will never help other people. Moreover, it can cause that people will anger more faster even though they do it without intention.

To sum up, competitiveness has both good and bad effects on inmdividuals. I strongly believe it is positive effect, however people should learn to balance it with mental health and with their relationships.
