There are numerous opportunities to integrate computers into the education system. It is argued that teachers may not be able to support their students effectively due to the impact of computer technologies. This essay partially agrees with that view. It is believed that teachers have essential roles to play; however, beyond imparting basic knowledge, they should serve as mentors to their students.
Teachers provide foundational knowledge accurately. Apart from playing a critical role in individuals’ lives by imparting essential information, they also serve as surrogate parents to educate the community. This entails repeating teachings multiple times, especially when students have difficulty grasping basic concepts. For example, in Arab societies, children learn numerous verses from the Quran. Even when students face challenges in learning, teachers support them by offering advice and guidance.
After providing guidance, teachers should empower their students to make decisions independently and work towards achieving their goals. Each student should be encouraged to set personal goals and make decisions autonomously after acquiring foundational knowledge. By utilizing resources such as computers, students can effectively pursue their objectives. When teachers fail to empower their students in this manner, students may struggle to progress beyond basic knowledge.
In conclusion, teachers are essential for students until they reach a level of confidence in making informed decisions within various domains. Consequently, teachers should serve as a fount of wisdom from which students can seek guidance and advice.
