People have to deal with more and more advertisements as a result of the competition between corporations. I think that advertising has heavily influenced individuals’ lives and behaviors especially impressionable people such as children, and it is the government responsibility to protect them by imposing stricter regulations and by educating citizens.
Despite the fact that there are many benefits for marketing, they strongly affected the public, particularly the young generation as they are easily influenced. Marketing companies used children’s favorite TV shows or cartoon characters as a method to promote for their unhealty food. As a result, many children are suffering from obesity. For example, a recent study conducted in 4 different countries found that 84% of children opt for cereal packages that has characters from their favorite movies.
On the other hand, in order to protect people from the negative impacts of advertisements the government need to educate the public and pose stricter laws on marketing unhealty foods. Having higer taxes on sugary foods and drinks would discourage people from purchasing them. For instance, The Canadian government has removed the taxes on produce to encourage people to consume nutritious foods.
To conclude, Although competition between marketing corporations has resulted in a huge number of advertisements, which extremely affected children’s choices, and thus their health. It is necessary to solve this issue by educating people especially young people about the negative effects of marketing and by enforcing rules as well as high taxes.
