Forests play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by producing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide and supporting biodiversity. However, rapid urbanisation and industrial expansion have led to large-scale deforestation. I absolutely disagree with the idea that deforestation is necessary for development, due to the fact that its negative consequences outweigh any benefits. Analysis of how deforestation increases carbon dioxide levels and destroys natural habitats, both of which have highly severe environmental consequences, will be revealed in this essay.
Firstly, deforestation significantly raises carbon dioxide levels, worsening global warming. Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide and regulate Earth’s temperature, but removing it leads to excess CO₂ in the atmosphere. This results in more contaminated air, increased precipitation, and rising global temperatures. Additionally, deforestation contributes to ozone layer depletion, increasing exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays. A clear example of this is the increasing frequency of heatwaves and natural disasters, which negatively impact both human populations and ecosystems.
Secondly, deforestation poses a major threat to biodiversity. The demand for materials such as wood and paper, as well as resources derived from forests, leads to excessive tree cutting, reducing oxygen levels and disrupting wildlife habitats. Many species rely on forests for survival, and habitat destruction forces them to migrate, often to unsuitable environments. Furthermore, as forests vanish, industries turn to other natural resources like minerals, metals, and petrochemicals, further damaging the environment. The forced displacement of wildlife and depletion of resources highlight the urgent need for conservation.
In conclusion, deforestation has highly negative consequences, increasing carbon dioxide levels and destroying ecosystems. Therefore, it is evident that deforestation must be controlled to prevent further harm. It is hoped that people will focus on preserving forests rather than exploiting it.
