Nowadays, the use of oil and gas is increasing rapidly every year, which leads people to look for sources in remote and untouched places. This essay will demonstrate how extraction of natural resources can change the economical situation but will also show that this can lead to such problems as the environmental and political catastrophes. According to the question, this essay will argue that the disavantages are outweigh the advantages.
One country that has experienced a high economic boost from extraction of natural resources is the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Over the past 50 years, the country which was a desert, where people were supposed to survive, have been developed into one of the richest countries in the world. Due to the extraction technologies, which have been developed, the UAE one of the most influencial, rich and touristic countries. The majority of businessmen set up the businesses here because this country does not have taxes.
In Nigeria, on the other hand, a large amount of oil, gas, and other resources has negative impact because it attracts big companies to make money from extracting it. The growing need for oil and gas wells has forced people to leave their homes to make way for wells. The works that was carried out in Nigeria destroyed many houses, the river which named Niger got hurt by oil’s leaks which means that the environment is in danger. Also Nigeria has corrupt government and money from extraction are not gone to the country, politicians stole money.
In conclusion, although the oil and gas are very important for economy growth and many countries reached the global level thanks to natural resources, but environmental health is more crucial than money. Hence, the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages.
